Here are some tips that will make your PC more secure.

Anti-virus


1. Never turn off the presence protection feature of your antivirus software, even if it degrades performance. Upgrade if necessary.

2. Keep the virus definitions up-to-date. Do not ignore the "You want to update now" message, but often pop up, using the antivirus automatic update feature.

Even if you are regularly updated and you do not see any suspicious activity on your computer, do an in-depth scan at least once a month.

4. Always create an emergency boot disk and save it in a safe place.

5. Run a deep scan at least every two months in safe mode to kill viruses that otherwise would otherwise be hidden.

Firewall

1. If you are unsure of the alerts displayed by your firewall, try searching on the Internet.

A firewall is a powerful tool that needs to understand how a program works, what it is doing, and whether it is secure. Reading the help file is very important for successful configuration of the firewall.

3. If you are running a third-party firewall, be sure to turn off Windows Firewall.

4. You can temporarily disable the firewall by right-clicking the icon in the tray. This is handy when you know a website is one you can trust, but your firewall blocks it. But remember to re-enable it as soon as possible.
